STIMPOD NMS450 receives FDA clearance

Xavant Technology (Pty) Ltd announced today that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted clearance of the STIMPOD NMS450 nerve stimulator. The STIMPOD NMS450 is the flagship in the STIMPOD range, with applications in both regional and general anesthesia procedures.

The STIMPOD NMS450 nerve stimulator has again set a new standard in precision nerve location and neuromuscular blocking agent monitoring. With its unique three dimensional accelerometer and highly effective nerve mapping probe, the STIMPOD NMS450 has gained a lot of support in Europe, Australia, Africa and the Middle East. The 510k clearance enables Xavant to further expand its North American markets, offering both the STIMPOD NMS410 and the STIMPOD NMS450. Initial market feedback in 2010 has shown great potential for this nerve stimulator in North America, and the release date is scheduled for the first quarter of 2011.

Xavant Technology is the first medical device company to use a three dimensional accelerometer to monitor muscle relaxants. This enables the anesthesiologist to place the accelerometer in any orientation without the need for lengthy setup procedures. It also allows for a change in orientation during the procedure without the need for re-calibration. The three-dimensional nature of the monitoring results in more reliable indications of the onset and reversal of the muscle relaxants. The STIMPOD NMS450 features Train-of-Four (TOF), Double Burst (DB), Post-Tetanic Count (PTC), Twitch and Tetanus stimulation patterns. The TOF-mode features a unique bar graph that aids in identifying artifacts in the measurements i.e. bumping against the patient. A Repeat-Timer function further reduces the overheads in using the system, enabling the STIMPOD NMS450 to automatically keep track of the muscle relaxant.

The STIMPOD NMS450 also contains all the features of the NMS410, with its unique nerve mapping probe, charge-transfer waveform, proximity indicator and auto-sensing technology.
